What is a Senior Move Manager?

A Senior Move Manager is a professional who specializes in assisting older adults and their families with the emotional and physical aspects of relocation and/or "aging in place." We do so much more than simply sort, settle and move boxes; with loads of energy, enthusiasm and experience, senior move managers take the worry (and work!) out of the move process. All senior move managers share a profound commitment to connecting with older adults and a desire to perform meaningful work.

Are you a moving company?

We are not a moving company, although we work closely with them. Unlike movers, we do not pack and move. We work extensively before moving day to decide what will be packed and moved. We also unpack and settle you into your new home. Putting your clothes in drawers and closets, food and dishes in kitchen cabinets, making sure your bed is made and you have the remote to the television before we leave on moving day. We coordinate service to be sure the trash and donations are picked up, the house is swept clean, and utilities are shut off or transferred.

Where do I start?

You can call, or we can get together, and talk about your options. When you are ready, we can create a timetable to move, a floor plan for your new space, and contact any resources you will need. Although moving can be overwhelming, we can help elevate some of the stress and take you through the process step by step. You can reach us at 508 944 3873.

We want to help our parents move but we live too far away. How can you help?

We understand that moving a parent is more than just moving boxes to a new location. Let us coordinate all the needed services, be there on moving day, and make sure they are completely settled in after the move. Keeping contact with you every step of the way, providing the most important element, peace of mind. We can help elevate your anxiety as well as your parents.

My family wants to help with my mom's move, we all live in the area. Can we still use you to do just some of the work?

Yes, you can choose the services that will be most helpful. We can support you in coordinating a plan and resources for the move, help with the physical task of organizing and downsizing, or an extra set of hands the day of the move. The Functional Home's goal is to take the pressure off the individual being moved and family too.

What if I am not ready to move?

We can still help you to downsize even if you don't have a moving date or any plan to move. Sorting through a lifetime of possessions can be intimidating. You can choose to start before the need for a move arises. If you are staying in your home, you can still make sense of your stuff and create peace in your home.
